Common recruitment method

Go to Scrap and enter the Pub. Riki will be sitting in the north end. Talk to him and you'll have a prompt to allow it to join; say 'yes' (of course) to recruit Riki.

Special recruitment methods

There are no special ways to recruit Riki.

Recruitable characters in Riki's scenario

Humans

Annie: To get the Hermit Ring, you'll need to enter Despair. When Riki and Mei-Ling discuss this, Annie will overhear and offer to help you. Accept, and she will join your party.

Emelia: During the Arcane Magic Quest - specifically, in search of the Gold Card - go to Baccarat and talk to the lady in the purple bunny outfit (This is Emelia); When you reach the part of the quest where you follow the gnome into the sewer, Emelia will come after you and ask to join. Say 'yes' to have Emelia join you.

Fei-On: Fei-On will eventually join you during the Tanzer quest.

Fuse: During the Arcane Magic quest - specifically, in search of the Shield Card - go to the IRPO and ask about the Shield Card. Fuse will agree to give you the Shield Card if you help him pick a flower that grows on top of a mountain in Mosperiburg. He will join you temporarily for this quest - You don't get game over if you lose to the boss, and he will leave your party if you do; however, upon completing the quest, he will join your party permanently.

Gen: Gen will automatically join your party during the infiltration of the Caballero Factory; you do not need to start the Rune Quest. Recruiting Gen is mandatory.

Lute: Go to Scrap and enter the Pub. Lute will be sitting in the lower right corner. Talk to him and you'll have a prompt to allow it to join; say 'yes' (of course) to recruit Lute.

Mei-Ling: Go to Scrap, and enter the Pub. Mei-Ling will be sitting on the north end. Talk to her, and you can invite her to join you. Recruiting Mei-Ling is mandatory.

Half-Mystics

Riki is unable to recruit any Half-Mystics.

Mystics

Dr. Nusakan: During the Healer Ring quest, go to the Backstreets of Koorong and enter the building. Talk to the person sitting in the waiting room, and then the door will open. Enter, and talk to the doctor (Dr. Nusakan); he will join your party. Recruiting Dr. Nusakan is mandatory.

Mesarthim: After you've recruited Dr. Nusakan, head for the Lord Manor in Owmi. Enter the basement, and fight the DevilSquid miniboss. After defeating it, you can access a door to the left. In this room will be a small body of water; approach it, and you will be prompted to either recruit Mesarthim, or receive an item from her.

Monsters

Cotton: Go to Shrike, and enter the Bio Research Lab. Head to the second floor and enter the library room. There is a hidden switch on the bookcase across from the room's entrance; press the switch and head further inside the lab until you reach a flight of stairs. Head up the stairs and you will find a room where some scientists are experimenting on a monster (Cotton). Fight the scientists, and Cotton will join you automatically afterwards.

Kylin: After completing the Space Magic quest, you will be able to ask Kylin to join your party.

Sei: Going through Sei's Tomb is a mandatory part of Riki's quest; as a result, Sei will inevitably join you (you don't fight Sei in Riki's quest, either).

Suzaku: During the Arcane Magic quest - specifically, in search of the Shield Card - go to the IRPO and ask about the Shield Card. Fuse will agree to give you the Shield Card if you help him pick a flower that grows on top of a mountain in Mosperiburg.

On the mountain, if you fight the optional boss Jotnar, you can recruit Suzaku. See the Side Quests section for more info on how to find and defeat Jotnar, as well as how to locate Suzaku.

Thunder: As soon as you have Lute in your party, you can head to Yorkland. From the 4-way fork, head to the right. In this section of town, talk to the big red Ogre (Thunder), and Lute will ask you if you want to invite Thunder to join.

Mecs

EngineerCar: After you've recruited T260, head to Shrike and enter Nakajima Robotics. The EngineerCar is in the back of the first floor. Talk to it, and you can invite it to join you.

T260: Go to Scrap and enter the Pub. T260 will be sitting in the lower left corner. Talk to it and you'll have a prompt to allow it to join; say 'yes' (of course) to recruit T260.

Character Analysis

By J Bugaboo: The fact that Riki starts with TailHit makes it very easy for him to assume a final form of BlackDragon, perhaps the single most powerful monster form in the entire game. BlackDragon has a relatively low HP requirement for its power and can be acquired by adding two other skills, Fang (easy to get) and StoneGas (moderately difficult). This alone is enough to rank Riki #5 among the eight recruitable monsters in the game in my book. Riki falls short of the rest, however, because until you land BlackDragon, he is likely to stink.

If you're playing Riki's quest, that's all fine and dandy; but, if you're trying to form a final party, there are better options for monsters. If you like monsters and are a pro at crafting them, you’ll probably nab Riki for the reason I mentioned above. If you don't know yet what makes a good monster (here's a hint: get MagicHeal or LifeRain)... Riki won't give you any clearer of a picture. Considering Riki can be had at the handy-dandy Scrap Pub, he can be a useful "training monster" for a new player looking to get some experience in. If you recruit Lute, though, you could just go recruit Thunder instead.
